Rapid fire!

Good morning! I woke up at 4:45 am to take the pre-meds I have to take exactly four hours before this chemo, and for the life of me, I could not go back to sleep. So, before chemo number 7 (!) in a few short hours, I figured I would do a rapid fire recount of the past week. The aches and pains after chemo are no joke, but I was lucky to have Jon around to force me to move a bit. We would try and go on a walk each day for at least 2 or 3 miles. It's a far stretch from the half marathon that I ran back in March, but every step counts: On Friday after chemo, we celebrated my parents' 39th (!) wedding anniversary at Balthazar. But first, I finally took them to the exhibit that I worked on at the Center for Architecture:  They enjoyed it, and my mom now has tons of pictures of me standing in front of various objects from the exhibit, despite my resistance. The weekend was relaxed, which was good, because the subsequent week was pretty busy. I received a WONDERFUL gift...

Nothing says chemo like Katz's!

Hello, I have two more chemos to go! I also have hot flashes! And aches and pains! So yeah, the latest fun news from treatment is that my body is going into (hopefully temporary) menopause. Hot flashes are no joke, and like a whole lot of the cancer process, it's a very lonely thing to experience in your early 30s. Throw in the standard-order aches, pains, and exhaustion in there, and it's shaping up to be a pretty good week! Oy. Like I said in my last post, I am definitely on a physical and emotional seesaw. Things are not great right this instant, but I must say, I am coming off a pretty solid chemo day on Monday. In addition to the fact that Greg had the brilliant idea of having us bring in Katz's for lunch (and the fact that my stomach could actually tolerate it), Therese, who was in town from Cali, joined us for most of my session: It was lovely to catch up with her, and she fit right in as we shot the shit with my nurse* and indulged in some 'superfoods....

A busy week!

Friends, it's been a busy week! But in the world of cancer, busy is good. Busy means I have enough energy to romp around this city. Busy means manageable pain. Busy means I could even do a little work. Busy means less time for my mind to wander to its darkest places. So yay for busy. On Sunday, we met Greg's cousins Ninette and Artur to go see the new Tarantino movie. I may or may not have known who Sharon Tate was, so it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me 😂. Even after figuring out the story, I didn't love the film, but it's always great to see the fam. After that, we went to Hometown for some BBQ and were joined by Austin, Allix, and bebe Milo. We love seeing them and the kiddo, even though Greg often turns Milo sideways against his will: On Monday, Greg and I celebrated our FIRST wedding anniversary! Obviously we did not expect to be celebrating our first year of marriage under these circumstances, but I really can't say how much cancer has made m...

It's T time!

Hello, I have officially 5 of 8 chemos under my belt. Three more to go. That feels good to type! The good news is that the T treatment doesn't make me nauseous. The bad news is that it does make me super tired and achy, down to my bones, like the way your body feels when you have the flu. Trade-offs, my friends, but thank g-d for my medical 🌿! Wednesday-Friday was admittedly little rough. When I'm physically unwell, it can really make me feel emotionally bummed out. But despite the creaky bones, I am happy to report that I had a great time seeing my cousine Roxane this past week, who was visiting with her boyfriend Larry! It was so lovely to see her, though I did feel bad that I'm not at normal energy and couldn't really hang so much. Larry keeps Kosher, so on Thursday, we did have a nice dinner together at Izzy's, a Kosher BBQ joint in Brooklyn*: After that, we swung by Butter and Scotch, a dessert bar/actual bar where our friend Elena works. We had some...
